Authentication

The Omneo ProxyCache DRC supports various authentication standards: LDAP, RADIUS, NTLM. For the NTLM  option various options exist:

  • Transparent Mode: In this mode, the proxy supports WWW-AUTH NTLM used by Microsoft IIS web servers. The proxy transparently passes the authentication credentials to the origin server.
  • Forward Mode: In this mode, the proxy performs NTLM Authentication (Proxy-Authenticate NTLM) in conjunction with a Windows domain controller.
  • NTLM Pass Through: In this mode, the proxy operates as a forward mode proxy but can forward-authenticate credentials to an IIS Web server. Microsoft I.E browsers fail to work with a forward proxy for WWW-AUTH NTLM. The NTLM Pass Through mode enables this authentication between a client connected to a forward proxy and the proxy transparently authenticating to an Origin server via WWWAUTH NTLM.
