Step 3.
Connection and Verification
After resolving the IP address of the nearest cache, the FastTrack 2.0 client connects to the Omneo P2P cache and verifies that it is a valid P2P cache. This is important; it allows the service provider to retain fine-grained control of the caching architecture operating in the network at any given time.
The client then uses Omneo P2P for all of it’s P2P traffic. Omneo P2P manages the job of delivering cached content, and of acquiring content that has not yet been cached on behalf of the requesting user. In this respect, Omneo P2P acts as a content proxy for the client; the origin of the requested content is therefore unimportant -- Omneo P2P results in substantial bandwidth savings in the network regardless of the location of the source files (Peering traffic, International traffic, etc.).
