Lower Operational Costs

Reduce Off-network Peer Traffic

Improve Peer-To-Peer Client Responsiveness

Warp Solutions’ Omneo P2P •
Unique Peer Caching Technolgy

Warp Solutions introduces a powerful new product that addresses the growing need to effectively cache P2P traffic. Omneo P2P provides network operators with the opportunity to dramatically improve the overall efficiency of network operations by caching frequently requested P2P traffic at distributed points around the network, close to the requesting audience.  Carrier costs are reduced by minimizing the amount of traffic that goes “off-net”, and users enjoy vastly improved responsiveness for P2P file transfers.

Peer-To-Peer Networking Challenges
Curing the Dominant Plague

The explosive growth of Peer-to-Peer (P2P) traffic on both public and enterprise networks around the globe has introduced new challenges for network service providers.  P2P traffic represents an increasingly dominant percentage of worldwide data network traffic, and traditional methods of network optimization, which are based on HTTP protocols, are not well suited or even applicable to the alternate protocols used for P2P traffic.  As networks become increasingly saturated with traffic that cannot be cached, operational expenses increase, and network performance plummets.

How Omneo P2P Caching Works
Intelligent, Flexible Peer Caching

Omneo P2P is predicated on the FastTrack 2.0 P2P file transmission protocol, which represents as much as 95% of the P2P traffic worldwide.  FastTrack clients include Kazaa, iMesh, and Grokster; these permit ordinary, network-attached users to connect directly to one another and share content without the need for traditional hub-and-spoke centralized server architectures.

FastTrack 2.0 is a powerful, robust specification for the operation of distributed peer networks.  Version 2.0 of the FastTrack specification includes a critical feature exploited by Omneo P2P – the ability for FastTrack clients to auto-discover P2P caches in the network.  This auto-discovery function is accomplished on the basis of a Domain Name Server (DNS) query for certain specific domain names which are hard-coded within the FastTrack client.  This means that FastTrack clients are able to automatically exploit the inherent network efficiencies that peer caching can provide without the need to make changes to client software.  More importantly, the hierarchical discovery methods used by DNS protocols ensure that architectural changes to the locations or numbers of caches in the network are automatically reflected in the normal operation of the FastTrack clients in the network.  Efficient P2P networking is thus heuristic, as FastTrack clients automatically locate Omneo P2P POPs which are queried first for requested files.
